Service to his country and community is a common thread in Scott's life.  His political interest was piqued when his father became first elected school board chairman of Upson County, Georgia, his home before moving to Lakeland in 1978.  Scott is now the President & CEO of Lanier Upshaw, Inc., Lakeland's largest and one of its oldest insurance and risk management firms.  He joined Lanier Upshaw in 2000, following 14 years of flying carrier jets as a Naval Aviator, and continued to serve in the Naval Reserves until retiring as a Commander in 2012.  Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the US Naval Academy, an MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and is a graduate of the US Air Force Air Command & Staff College

Scott has been involved extensively in outside organizations and has chaired numerous civic, community and industry boards.  He has previously served as the president of the Lakeland Rotary Club, chairman of the Lakeland Economic Development Council and the Florida Young Presidents Organization, treasurer of Sun 'n Fun, director of the Central Florida Speech & Hearing Center and Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce, and Commodore of the Lakeland Yacht & Country Club.  He is also a graduate of Leadership Lakeland, Leadership Polk, and the Polk County Public Leadership Institute.

Scott has been awarded numerous military decorations and awards, including the Sea Control Wing's Senior Pilot of the Year for Atlantic Fleet 1999, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Navy Commendation Medals, and five Navy Achievement Medals, among others.

Scott has been married to his wife, Amy, for nearly 27 years, and they have three adult children.

Scott hopes to apply his service and leadership experience as your next Lakeland City Commissioner.  Learn more about Scott's priorities for City Hall, see how you can get involved, and consider making a contribution.
